Post-Doctoral Fellow Joins the CEMVC

The CEMVC welcomes Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Dr. Ailén Cruz, to the team!

Dr. Cruz recieved her Ph.D. from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Toronto in May, 2020. Her doctoral dissertation, titled “From the Griffin to the Axolotl: The Resurgence and Reimagining of the Medieval Bestiary in Contemporary Hispanic Literature,” was funded through competitive national, provincial, and local grants including a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Fellowship, an Ontario Graduate Scholarship and Mitacs Globalink Award. Her project analyzes the resurgence of the medieval bestiary —defined as short, animal-centered texts, often illustrated, used for Christian indoctrination of medieval society—in contemporary Hispanic literature.

At the CEMVC, she will be responsible for readying the CEMVC’s publications for collections, as well as working with our App developers to optimize the research training modules for Research Assistants.
