5 Tips for Keeping Up with the CEMVC

Tip #1: Follow us on Facebook! We will share news and updates on our page letting you know when new content is added to our site and to the CAIRN database.

Tip #2: Check out our blog posts! The CEMVC publishes bi-weekly posts just like this one to help spread the news about our research. We also share calls for papers. If you have news that you would like us to share, please contact us at cemvc@mta.ca.

Tip #3: Search for incredible iconography on CAIRN! If you have trouble finding what you are looking for, we recommend using Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to improve the accuracy of search results. For example:

 Gulliver AND boat

Gulliver OR boat

Gulliver NOT boat

Tip #4: Explore our website and resources! An example of a helpful resource is “Bestias Sueltas,” a database of bestiaries created by Dr. Ailén Cruz.

Tip #5: Use cemvc.ca and CAIRN as a starting point for YOUR research! A thesis on visual culture can start with just one amazing image. The image below, for example, comes from the 1843 Gentilucci edition of “El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha” by Miguel de Cervantes (1605, 1615), which can be found under the Italian language Collection. This image is particularly interesting as it highlights the beginning of the journey of Don Quijote – a magnificent adventure that began through the act of reading.
